They will just be infatuated with the idea of a female President and/or Vice President. Hillary quietly pushed thru congress a tiny silent bill to give Puerto Ricans $3000 each income tax refund/gift/whatever you wanna call it. Puerto Rico is a territory of the U.S. and therefor they are citizens of the U.S. but don't pay any income tax. Yet Hillary gave them a refund anyway. Hillary and a number of other Dems were out in force campaigning for a raise in the minimum wage saying there are too many working single mothers trying to make a living on poverty level wages (minimum wage) along side uncontrolled, unchecked, unregulated child care expenses. What's wrong with raising the minimum wage?

Everything.

Raising the minimum wage completely, takes away the incentive to educate oneself or strive for a better job. Ok so working for minimum wage is tough, and I know this from my own experiences. When I got out of the military after 10 years of service to the country, I worked for minimum wage (at that time $4.75 an hour) and had a number of jobs that were only $5 to $6 an hour because I had to be immediately employed to make a living and pay my child support. I admit I got way behind trying to pay rent utilities and insurance on a vehicle to get me back and forth to work. However, this was even more incentive to work harder, be the best at anything I did, and keep educating myself so that I would be classified as a skilled worker. I didn't wait for minimum wage to cure my financial issues.

The Solution - don't raise minimum wage, just PAY people more for their efforts and skills.

Raising the minimum wage is nothing more than a premise and platform for unions to raise their own wages and put a tighter stranglehold on their employers. Unions have a hugely negative impact on the economy, employers, and capitalism.

While all this smoke and mirror and fine art of deception is taking place with the Dems as the ring leaders and choreographers, the plain facts remain for all to see.

We have a President that says what he means, and means what he says, and he doesn't have to slander anyone, or perform character assassination of his colleagues to make himself look better. In Oct 2002 the NASDAQ was at 1550 points, the Dow (DJIA) was at 9002 points, and the S&P (Standard & Poor's) 500 was at 779 points. Because of President Bush's "Stay the course" attitude, he has come through in keeping taxes down, keeping America safe, and leading a nation with firm conviction no matter "what" the insecure people of the nation or the world have to say about him to make themselves look better. Today the NASDAQ is 2449 (steady strong growth since 10/02), the Dow is 12305 (more strong steady growth), S&P 500 is at 1400, again...strong steady growth. If President Bush is such a bad president, why is the economy so strong, and growing stronger, even in the face of war efforts abroad, Democrats trying to destroy his credibility at every turn, and National and World natural disasters?

It's funny how Hurricanes and natural disasters and global warming are all President Bush's fault, yet when something like the economy is doing so well, he isn't to blame for it. Huh! interesting, oh wait..It's Kerry's fault the economy is so strong and steady, no wait, it's the inventor of the Internet, Al Gore, to blame , no wait, It's the Reverend Jesse "I don't really do anything, I am just there taking credit for it" Jackson's fault for our economy.

Ricochet Rocket

Back in the Day

Do you remember running home from school to be in time to watch Speed Racer and his friends?

I think that was the greatest cartoon in the after school category of all time. Speed Racer was the first anime to come to America, fully dubbed (don't ya love watching the mouth move when it doesn't match the words they are saying?) in the 1960's for our enjoyment. Do they not remember Vietnam and what happened when the U.S. pulled out of that war? Eventually the north took over the south with a death toll reaching 2.3 million military and civilians when all was said and done.

Remember now, that was a war fought overseas that stayed overseas. The problem is significantly different in the war in the Arab east. If we pull out now, the war wont stay over there. It has already come to us with the initial bombing in the World Trade Center parking deck in the early 90's, then again on Sept. 11th, 2001. Also the war has come to the U.K. and Australia where successful bombings occurred, while many other terrorist bombing attempts had been thwarted (most recently the 10 civilian airlines leaving the U.K. with terrorists on-board).

We have a choice, keep the war in the Arab east until the terrorist threat is eliminated, OR pull out now and wait for terrorism to come to us. It has already, and we pushed it back. It will come again if we back down now. Terrorists want America to fall. They want ALL world powers to fall. They want Islam and the Muslim religion to rule the world. There is no doubt about this. Iran is just biding its time, producing nuclear weaponry and even testing those weapons delivery systems. The Middle East needs to be stabilized.

How many people are actually thinking about the result of pulling out of the Middle East and the effects it would have in a prime environment of a destabilized, terrorist controlled, Arab Nations? Do we think it will just stay there or go away if we leave and look the other way? Not hardly. Not by ANY stretch of the imagination. If the Democrats had their way, we would tuck tail, come home, and WAIT for it to come to us...AGAIN...and then fight on our own soil.

What are you prepared to do??

Conan...Bad form

Good one Conan! NOT!
If last nights Emmy's spot with Conan O'Brien and his spoof on air travel crashes wasn't bad timing in and of itself because of the ComAir crash that happened at just about the same time, it certainly shows a total lack of compassion and creativity on Conan's and his producers part. Is there nothing else in the world that's funny or humorus enough that personal tragedy and currently a wide spread tragic situation has to be the cornerstone of Conan's reputation?

Talk about lack of compassion. Yes, it might have been funny. SO might a spoof on the World Trade Center tragedy...NOT! I'm sorry, but with the number of people that use air travel, and the number of air travel accidents, and terrorists using air travel as a primary target, it was no more funny than doing a spoof on car crashes, or children dying of cancer, or people drowning in hurricane floods.

Conan...Bad form, Bad professionalism, Bad humor, Rock bottom creativity, and overall HUGE mistake! But it's still a shame that Mr Thomas being long gone, we can't go back and ask "what did you mean by this?". So it's left up to us, to associate whatever meaning we get from the poetry. This is one I like:

And Death Shall Have No Dominion
by: Dylan Thomas

And death shall have no dominion.
Dead men naked they shall be one
With the man in the wind and the west moon;
When their bones are picked clean and the clean bones gone,
They shall have stars at elbow and foot;
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.

And death shall have no dominion.
Under the windings of the sea They lying long shall not die windily;
Twisting on racks when sinews give way,
Strapped to a wheel, yet they shall not break;
Faith in their hands shall snap in two,
And the unicorn evils run them through;
Split all ends up they shan't crack;
And death shall have no dominion.

And death shall have no dominion.
No more may gulls cry at their ears
Or waves break loud on the seashores;
Where blew a flower may a flower no more
Lift its head to the blows of the rain;
Though they be mad and dead as nails,
Heads of the characters hammer through daisies;
Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion.

Now this one says TONS in such a short, to the point, poem. My kinda guy, D.H. Lawrence.

SELF-PITY - D H LAWRENCE
I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself
A small bird will drop frozen from a bough
without ever having felt sorry for itself.

Rocket

Syndey "Blooming Idiot" Blumenthal exposes himself as a Spy for foreign Governments

Sydney Blumenthal - The True Anti-Patriot
Syndey "Blooming Idiot" Blumenthal, the former assistant and senior advisor to President Clinton, exposes himself as a Spy for foreign Governments by selling sensitive and confidential information to Salon.com!

...in his true liberal democratic form, Blumenthal commits treason and sedition in his latest insurgent act recently by selling an article (he wrote) to Salon.com exposing National Security Agency plans during a time of war. Blumenthal, using an "un-named" source close to Vice President Dick Cheney's national security staff and Elliott Abrams, spies on confidential conversations concerning National Security and exposes said conversations to foreign governments by publicizing them in online and other forms of communication.

Actions such as this, resembling that of the main stream media's acts of crime during war, exposing our troop movements, strengths and capabilities, locations and losses [giving aid to foreign governments as to their effectiveness and damage to our front lines] SHOULD bring formal charges. However, that is yet to be seen as no formal charges have been filed, as yet.

For the complete text of Blumenthal's actions exposing NSA plans, see his article at Salon.com

This is the VERY kind of Anti-Patriotic acts from idiots like Blumenthal, that undermine our own governement for nothing more than selfish, hate driven attempts to oust our President from office. I don't care WHO our President is, or if I like him or not, or wether I agree with him or not, our national security comes first. "United we stand, divided we fall". And division, "from within", is EXACTLY what Blumenthal is trying to accomplish by acting as spy and foreign advisor to enemy states and governments.

Rocket

United States Property for Sale - $18 for 160 acres

Would you like to "own" 160 acres of land in the United States for just $18.00? Not per acre, not per day, not per month, not per year. Just $18.00 total sale price for 160 acres.

what's the catch? Well, there was no catch, at the time. The Time? If you had filed for your land between 1862 and 1974, you could be the proud owner of 160 acres of land that is YOURS. Not the banks, not a real estate company, not anyone else but you...HAD you known about it.

Unfortunately, I am bringing you this news too late. My apologies. However, why didn't anyone else mention this to you? Like the United States Government? To be honest, they did tell us in the Homestead Act of 1862, and that was it.

You could file for your 160 acres in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California and Alaska until 1974 with the exception of Alaska which was extended to 1986.

How did it work? The following is a brief summary of all you had to do to be a land owner:

The Filing Process

People interested in Homesteading first had to file their intentions at the nearest Land Office. A brief check for previous ownership claims was made for the plot of land in question, usually described by its survey coordinates. The prospective homesteader paid a filing fee of $10 to claim the land temporarily, as well as a $2 commission to the land agent.

With application and receipt in hand, the homesteader then returned to the land to begin the process of building a home and farming the land, both requirements for "proving" up at the end of five years. When all requirements had been completed and the homesteader was ready the take legal possession, the homesteader found two neighbors or friends willing to vouch for the truth of his or her statements about the land's improvements and sign the "proof" document.

After successful completion of this final form and payment of a $6 fee, the homesteader received the patent for the land, signed with the name of the current President of the United States. This paper was often proudly displayed on a cabin wall and represented the culmination of hard work and determination.

Homestead Act of 1862 is recognized as one of the most revolutionary concepts for distributing public land in American history. Repercussions of this monumental piece of legislation can be detected throughout America today, decades after the cry of "Free Land!" has faded away.

Homestead Act of 1862 in its entirety.

Rocket

It's not new...

Well, it was time to take a step back to basics. One of my earlier blogs at http://dailyrocket.spaces.msn.com is just too much for the senses. So today I am breaking new ground in the past of clean and basic.

I am not sure yet wether this will be a continuation of, or seperate from the original Daily Rocket. We will just have to see how and where this goes.

It's amazing all the different chat programs and chat environments that are out these days. I'm a veteran geek from days of old when CyberBabble, Powwow, Freetell, iPhone, and yes, ICQ were in their infancy and among the only few ways to chat outside of telnetting into a BBS, and now I enjoy the chats in a 3D virtual world. www.IMVU.com and www.secondlife.com just to name a few of todays chat technology.

MSN chat, yahoo chat...and many others of the 2d level of text chat has become a thing of the past.

If you would like to link back to some previous topics (including gaming and chat) topics at the other site, just visit The Daily Rocket at the address I gave at the begining of this post.

I may revisit a few of them here in the near future as well.

Rocket
